Filtering induces correlation in fMRI resting state data

► We show that temporal filtering impacts connectivity by introducing sample dependence. ► We derive the distribution of correlation between filtered signals with dependence. ► Corrected distributions are also derived for statistical tests of sample correlation. ► Proposed corrections are valid for any true correlation and all filter specifications. ► Empirical and experimental results verify the utility of the proposed corrections.
