Brain activation patterns during visual episodic memory processing among first-degree relatives of schizophrenia subjects

► We examine BOLD response to visual episodic memory (ViMEM) in schizophrenia (SZ). ► Comparison groups were first-degree relatives (FDR) and healthy controls (HC). ► Groups show incremental increase in encoding time (HC < FDR < SZ). ► We note greater PFC, thalamus and insula activation (SZ > FDR; SZ > HC) to retrieval. ► BOLD response to ViMEM retrieval may be an endophenotype.
