Abstract
► We examine fMRI response to both visible and visually suppressed emotional faces. ► Subjects assessed for trait fear/fearlessness and trait negative affectivity (NA). ► Individual difference effects found under invisible face processing conditions. ► Subjects high in NA show greater fear-neutral differentiation in STS and amygdala. ► Enhanced receptivity in visual-subcortical pathways to faces in those high in NA.
