Abstract
⺠The McGurk effect is an audiovisual speech illusion that only some humans perceive. ⺠Left superior temporal sulcus (STS) is important for audiovisual speech perception. ⺠McGurk perceivers exhibit stronger STS activity for incongruent audiovisual speech. ⺠Left STS was the only brain area that differed between groups and stimuli. ⺠Left STS activity may be the neural basis for intersubject McGurk differences.
