Abstract
⺠We study the neural basis of the transition from non-painful to painful experience. ⺠We use an objective nonlinear technique to model BOLD response amplitude profiles. ⺠The analysis implicated motor-related regions of the pain matrix in this transition. ⺠Modeled BOLD profiles from these regions predict subjective reports of pain.
