Abstract
►Participants walked forwards and backwards on a treadmill. ►fNIRS was utilized to evaluate the concentration of oxyHb and deoxyHb in cortices. ►The concentration of oxyHb was greater while walking backward. ►Stride-time variability was greater during backward walking. ►Stride-time variability was positively correlated with the concentration of oxyHb.
