Abstract
⺠We investigated visual short-term memory (VSTM) interference by irrelevant input. ⺠It is unclear whether this effect occurs at early stages of visual processing. ⺠Subliminal visual stimulus was presented during visual short-term maintenance. ⺠This affected the fidelity of VSTM when incongruent with the memory cue. ⺠A TMS study indicated that this interaction takes places in the early visual cortex.
