Abstract
► Non-Gaussian diffusion in the human brain was studied at high diffusion weightings. ► Kurtosis and new alpha-maps quantify deviations from patterns of Gaussian diffusion. ► Biexponential diffusion tensor analysis improves white matter mapping. ► Histograms of FA of the slow diffusion tensor exhibit a peak at higher values. ► Orientations of the fast and slow diffusion tensors in WM are largely correlated.
