Linear and nonlinear prefrontal and parietal activity during multiple-item working memory

► We investigated the retention of one or two items of a single feature category or two categories using fMRI. ► Both linear and nonlinear activity patterns were observed in the prefrontal and posterior parietal cortices. ► Memory capacity is affected by both visual feature and interaction between items.
