Abstract
⺠A polytypic transformation during solution-crystallization has been confirmed for n-alkanes and fatty acids. ⺠The double layer polytype is more stable than the single layer one. ⺠Low-frequency vibrational modes dominate the relative stabilities of polytypes. ⺠Polytypic structures have a significant influence on solid-state phase transitions.
