Abstract
► We report experiments on the cortical representation of musical register information. ► The resonance scale and pulse rate of musical instrument tones were varied. ► Changes in pulse rate evoked neuromagnetic activity in posterior Heschl's gyrus. ► Transitions in resonance scale elicited independent activity in planum temporale. ► Conclusion: Musical register variables are independently represented in cortex.
