Abstract
Different kinds of passive and active responsiveness of nanoparticles (to physico-chemical and biological stimuli, such as electromagnetic fields, temperature, pH, etc.) are here reviewed, having biomedical applications as main targets. A number of challenges for the developers of responsive systems are also proposed.
