Abstract
⺠We examined whether tinnitus precedes the development of depressive symptoms. ⺠Tinnitus was clearly associated with depressive symptoms in men, but not in women. ⺠The first evidence linking preceding tinnitus to depressive symptoms in the elderly ⺠Primary care providers should recognize tinnitus as a risk factor for depression.
