Abstract
The Geriatric Unit in Edouard-Herriot Hospital in Lyon has set up a direct call line for practitioners working in the city. The objective of this study was to identify the expectations and perceptions of non-hospital physicians concerning this direct call line. A qualitative study was conducted with 20 physicians. The practitioners interviewed were not gaining adequate access to hospitals for their patients and for second opinions. The physicians using the direct call line perceived a time-saving. Access to hospitalization and specialist advice is facilitated by a direct call line in a geriatric unit. In certain situations it could avoid hospitalizations.
