Abstract
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is developing fast. Its vitality and its scope for objective evaluation using standardised methods partly explain this development. While the use of this type of therapy among the elderly appears reasonable, this paper addresses the specific features of CBT in ageing populations. Following a general overview of the principles of CBT, the results of major meta-analysis studies on its impact are discussed. Finally, we consider adjustments required for application to the care of the elderly, and current perspectives in CBT.
