Abstract
⺠Forty nine (26%) of 186 patients with Chagas' disease heart failure were found to have anemia ⺠The proportion of chronic kidney disease was similar in patients with and without anemia ⺠Beta-Blocker therapy was an independent predictor of mortality in this patient population. ⺠Anemia was not an independent predictor of mortality in patients with chronic systolic heart failure secondary to Chagas' cardiomyopathy ⺠Mortality was higher in patients with than in those without anemia, particularly in patients with advanced heart failure.
