Abstract
⺠A new test for dengue using one-step RT-PCR and one-enzyme RFLP is described. ⺠The test distinguishes between the 4 dengue serotypes, Yellow Fever, West Nile and SLE viruses. ⺠Results are obtained in 24 h with human sera or cultured virus and basic PCR and electrophoresis equipment. ⺠>95% specificity: serotype can be confirmed by sequencing and indirect immunofluorescence. ⺠The method identifies rapidly prevalent dengue serotypes; and assesses the risk of DHF/DSS in areas of prior exposure.
