Evaluation of an ELISA to detect rabies antibodies in orally vaccinated foxes and raccoon dogs sampled in the field

► We evaluate an ELISA to detect rabies antibodies produced by foxes and raccoon dogs. ► We investigate diagnostic performances of the ELISA in comparison with the FAVN test. ► Specificity reached 100% and a high concordance (95%) is reached between both tests. ► The agreement with tetracycline results is satisfactory in the fox and raccoon dog. ► The performance of ELISA is not affected by the possible haemolysis of field sera.
