► The overall parasite prevalence (Haemoproteus, Leucocytozoon and Plasmodium) was 42%. ► 14% of infected birds presented co-infections. ► Intrageneric co-infections were more frequent than intergeneric co-infections. ► Haemoproteus and Leucocytozoon presented specificity at the host family level.
