► Viral integration has important consequences in the alteration of cellular gene expression. ► The identification of genes associated with viral integration would serve as approach to identify therapeutic target to develop genomic strategies for antiviral treatment. ► The five genes turned off produced a significant change in the functional state of the host cell showing a new metabolic profile, in this case, macrophages. ► This kind of bioiformatics studies permits to get new and valuable information about cellular processes and their alterations.
