Abstract
► Surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) on Ti-6Al-4V resulted in nanostructuring of surface. ► SMAT increased fretting wear resistance due to higher hardness, lower friction and more TiO2 layer. ► Fretting resistance of samples tested against alumina was lower than that of the samples tested against steel.
