Abstract
âºThis study is the first of its kind to examine the role of fluorinated ZDDP as an antiwear agent in comparison to ZDDP. âºThis study uses nanoindentation to examine the hardness and reduced modulus of the tribofilms formed from ZDDP and F-ZDDP and also examines the role played by contact pressure on the properties of the tribofilms. We believe this is the first experimental study where tribofilms formed under extreme pressure under different conditions have been examined. âºSPM and FIB imaging have been used to characterize both surface morphology and actually measure thickness of the tribofilms formed. âºWear of the tribofilms has been examined using the nanoindenter as a scanning wear unit. It is shown that tribofilms formed by F-ZDDP have greater wear resistance than the tribofilms formed by ZDDP.
