Abstract
► Based on statistical and numerical approaches constitutive contact laws (pad-rotor) are derived. ► These contact laws are based on measured surface topographies from pads at different states of wear. ► A simple structural model for the investigation of brake squeal is presented. ► A strong influence of the surface roughness on the occurrence of self-excited vibrations is found.
