Abstract
To reveal the effect of oil film squeezing on the startup process, the modified transient Reynolds, thermal energy and working oil temperature–viscosity equations are solved simultaneously using finite element method. The results show that the effect of oil film squeezing is very small in the earlier stage of the startup process. In the later stage, the effect of oil film squeezing becomes more and more significant with decrease of oil film thickness. Oil film load capacity is approximately increased by 30% with the effect of oil film squeezing being considered. The simulation results are verified by experiments.
