Abstract
⺠Cast iron rings were slid against Al-Si in a lubricated start-stop tribometer test. ⺠Transient velocities caused greater wear to the ring but lower wear to the Al-Si. ⺠Tribo-film performance was investigated by FIB-SIMS mapping and depth profiling. ⺠Start-stop caused thinner tribo-films but frictional performance was not degraded.
