Abstract
⺠The main contribution concerns the role of modelling in understanding the tool-chip interface. ⺠Interactions between the thermomechanical process of chip formation and the tribological conditions have been analysed. ⺠The influence of cutting conditions on the nature of the contact has been discussed.
