Abstract
⺠Fretting wear of thin steel wires tends to a two wear mechanisms. ⺠The two wear periods depend on the formation of oxide protective layers. ⺠The protective layers involve different wear behaviour with different crossing angles. ⺠Smaller crossing angles promote smaller coefficients of wear. ⺠The coefficients of wear are related with the contact pressure and stroke.
