Abstract
► Texture generated by tension as crosslinking pretreatment of UHMWPE used in implants. ► Tension induces a microfibrillar morphology with lamellae fragments forming chevrons. ► Wear sliding behavior of textured UHMWPE is investigated under fretting conditions. ► Textured UHMWPE has lower contact area and sliding energy than untreated UHMWPE. ► Texturing treatment increases strength and generates anti-wear properties.
