Abstract
⺠Single abrasive particle interactions are simulated by indentation or scratch tests. ⺠Degree of superimposition (DS) is a new parameter aimed to identify wear transitions. ⺠Mass loss occurs when DS is above a critical level for scratch and indentation tests. ⺠Work hardening and reduction of mechanical support occurred for high values of DS. ⺠Transitions from ploughing to chip formation occurred when scratching DS increased.
