Abstract
ⶠEngineering surfaces can exhibit significant global- and local parameter variations. ⶠUncertainties in sampling can be un-expectantly large due to variations in topography. ⶠOptimised sampling strategies both locally and globally decrease uncertainty. ⶠOptimised sampling shows a potential to halve the number of measurements needed. ⶠMore sophisticated rules than presented here need to be developed for “stop-sampling” criteria.
