Abstract
⺠A family of intermetallic compound-based casting alloys (NICRALC) were proposed as economic alternative to cobalt-based casting alloys for wear resistance at high temperatures. ⺠The NICRALC alloys contain hard chromium carbides in a continuous Ni-Al-Cr gamma prime matrix. ⺠Mechanical properties, dry sand and lubricated wear properties were measured and compared with cobalt based Stellite 6 alloy. ⺠Eutectic and near eutectic NICRALC alloys presented wear and abrasion properties similar to those obtained with Stellite. ⺠The alloys with lower fracture toughness showed higher volume loss, despite its higher hardness and yield strength.
