Abstract
▶ Ceramic components alone emit audible squeaking. ▶ Proposed model relates vibration frequency to device geometry and coefficient of friction. ▶ Derived relationship accurately models frequency of noise from squeaking COC hips. ▶ Laboratory tests using accelerometers confirm predicted head motion. ▶ Model predicts vibration due to roll/slide motion; independent of load.
