Abstract
ⶠThe meniscus on the surface of rubber originates the initiation of Schallamach wave. ⶠIts propagation is governed by the stress field of compression and tension. ⶠThe wave is accompanied with stick-slip motion on the appropriate sliding velocity. ⶠTrue sliding always occurs on the contact whether the wave is generated or not. ⶠThe wave decrease the contact area before true sliding to allow smoother sliding.
