Abstract
▶ The meniscus on the surface of rubber originates the initiation of Schallamach wave. ▶ Its propagation is governed by the stress field of compression and tension. ▶ The wave is accompanied with stick-slip motion on the appropriate sliding velocity. ▶ True sliding always occurs on the contact whether the wave is generated or not. ▶ The wave decrease the contact area before true sliding to allow smoother sliding.
