Abstract
Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, postpartum hemorrhage, and severe anemia remain important determinants in maternal morbidity. Facilities and training at first-referral units should be improved so that they can respond better to basic obstetric emergencies such as sepsis, hemorrhage, and shock.
