Abstract
► We executed membrane filtration with use of three surface waters of different character. ► We examined the influence of NOM properties and the wettability of membranes on fouling. ► FTIR spectra revealed differences in character of three natural surface waters. ► We found that the more hydrophobic membrane, the greater fouling. ► We observed that the fouling reversibility depended on the system: feed water-membrane.
