Abstract
► Hydrophobic heat exchangers were investigated in a two-chamber apparatus. ► A 0.635-μm-thick hydrophobic coating and shearing steam enhanced condensation. ► Forced convection and boiling stones enhanced the overall heat transfer coefficient. ► The maximum overall heat transfer coefficient measured was U = 184 kW/(m2·°C) ► Results will benefit vapor-compression desalination
