Abstract
⺠Neural activity differs in anesthetized, sleeping and awake animals. ⺠Awake intracellular recordings can reveal cellular and synaptic mechanisms underlying behavior-related spiking activity. ⺠Improved microdrives and head-fixed preparations facilitate intracellular recording in moving animals.
