Abstract
► Age-related relationships between energy metabolism of cerebral cortex and HPA were studied. ► Different mitochondrial subpopulations were purified and characterised by enzyme kinetics. ► At 4-6 months oxidative metabolism is less favoured in HPT and HYPH with respect to CTX. ► During ageing oxidative metabolism increases in HPT and HYPH with respect to CTX. ► HPA is likely characterised by an “eumetabolomic energy state” during ageing.
