Abstract
⺠The perifornical-lateral hypothalamic area (PF-LHA) is a wake-promoting region. ⺠Nitric oxide (NO), a sleep-promoting factor, inhibits majority of PF-LHA neurons. ⺠Blockade of sGC-cGMP signaling attenuated NO-evoked suppression of PF-LHA neurons. ⺠Blockade of GABAA as well as adenosine A1 receptors also attenuated NO-evoked actions. ⺠Adenosinergic, GABAergic and sGC-cGMP mechanisms contribute to the actions of NO on PF-LHA neurons.
