Abstract
â¶Orexin/hypocretin inputs to the medial septum and hippocampus modulate behavioral arousal and performance on hippocampal-dependent cognitive tasks. â¶Aging is associated with reduced orexin/hypocretin innervation of medial septum and hippocampus. â¶Aged rats showed alterations in orexin/hypocretin modulation of hippocampal glutamate and GABA efflux. â¶Changes in orexin/hypocretin signaling may contribute to age-related impairments in arousal and memory consolidation.
