Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 with phosphorylation of tyrosine 15 residue is enriched in striatal matrix compartment in adult mice

▶Immunohistochemical distribution of Cdk5-pY15 in the mouse striatum was studied. ▶Differential localization of Cdk5-pY15 is found in the striosome-matrix systems. ▶There is a heightened labeling of Cdk5-pY15 in the matrix relative to the striosomes. ▶Our findings indicate that Cdk5-pY15 can be a new marker for the matrix compartment. ▶Neurons in striosomes and matrix may differ in their activities mediated by Cdk5-signaling.
