Abstract
Development of a sustainable integrated water management (IRWM) scheme is needed by utilizing the multidisciplinary information resulting from the research activities in the similar EU river basins (e.g. the Ebro, Spain), development of a sustainable integrated water management (IRWM) scheme is needed. The IRWM should incorporate quantity and quality aspects, river modelling by taking into account natural disasters of floods and droughts, monitoring of physico-chemical and biological parameters as well as priority substances recently regulated by environmental quality standards regarding WFD 2000/60/EC.
