Abstract
► We studied long-term hippocampal glial activation in a pilocarpine rat model. ► A epileptogenic dose and its fractions were applied. ► Morphology and density of astrocytes and microglia were evaluated at 2, 4, 8 weeks. ► Astrocyte peak-hypertrophy and trough-density values correlated to epileptogenesis. ► Data indicate glial resilience loss plays a key role in delayed epileptogenesis.
