Abstract
► Self-paced and externally triggered lower limb movements were investigated in fMRI. ► Subjects were fixed to an MRI bed and performed movements that mimicked walking. ► The cortical motor areas and the cerebellum were involved in both types of movement. ► The basal ganglia was selectively recruited for the self-paced lower limb movement.
