Abstract
⺠Some human pain syndromes are accompanied by increased sensory axon density. ⺠We examined the role of inflammation in promoting sensory hyperinnervation. ⺠3 Days after plantar carrageenan injection, mechanical and thermal sensitivity were increased. ⺠This was accompanied by a 2-fold increase in cutaneous innervation density. ⺠Inflammation-induced sensory hyperinnervation may contribute to hypersensitivity.
