Abstract
► We studied a role of metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) in the auditory system. ► Group I and II mGluRs modulate neuronal firing in inferior colliculus neurons. ► mGluRs play a key role in long-term suppression of neuronal activity evoked by sound. ► mGluRs may contribute to the phenomenon of residual inhibition of tinnitus.
