Abstract
▶ Lipoic acid decreased infarct size in an in vivo rodent model of stroke. ▶ Lipoic acid significantly delayed the onset of anoxic depolarization in vitro. ▶ Lipoic acid significantly prolonged the time course of anoxic depolarization. ▶ Lipoic acid attenuated the glutamate-induced increase in intracellular calcium. ▶ Lipoic acid-induced neuroprotection may involve modulating calcium homeostasis.
