Abstract
► Phase locking to the fine structure of narrowband stimuli is not degraded in quiet. ► Degraded phase locking to fine structure emerges in background noise. ► Envelope coding is enhanced following cochlear hearing loss. ► Loss of tonotopicity has a significant effect on the temporal coding of broadband stimuli. ► Across-fiber temporal coding is degraded following sensorineural hearing loss.
