Abstract
⺠Female outperform male listeners in familiar voice identification. ⺠First demonstration of an own-gender bias in male listeners. ⺠Contact mediates the main effect of listener gender. ⺠Voice distinctiveness mediates the main effect of voice gender. ⺠Own-gender bias may be related to similar findings in face recognition.
