Abstract
► Overcompensation to the hearing loss worsens the tinnitus and depressive feelings. ► Overcompensation increases activity within the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex. ► Overcompensation increases activity within pregenual anterior cingulate cortex. ► Most likely reflects worsening of the annoyance and distress. ► Increase in gamma activity in the auditory cortex after overcompensation.
